Weekly Update: March 12, 2017

Hello Robina Families,

March seems to be flying by!  And although we are "springing" ahead with time this weekend, I am not exactly sure where "spring" is. Hopefully we are headed for warmer days, grass, sunshine and flowers very soon!

What a great Girls Floor Hockey Tournament this weekend! Our two Raptor Girls teams played their hearts out and both teams had some pretty exciting games and wins. Our B team ended up winning the Gold medal game of the tournament in a nail biting overtime finale! Our A team, pulled up their collective socks after a couple learning games and got in a couple of exciting wins. Great job Raptor GIRLS!

Weekly Update: February 26, 2017

Hello Robina Families,

It is very hard to believe that this past week was a short week!  We sure packed in a lot of activities! With Pink Shirt Day, the release of our video and the Spell-a-thon it was incredibly busy! It was lots of excitement for many and the upcoming week will be another short one with a PD Day on Friday. We are also starting March on Wednesday - so it will be an early dismissal!

On Monday, February 27 is our school fundraiser meeting at 6:30 in the staff room. All parents are welcome to attend! Hope to see you there!!

PINK SHIRT DAY VIDEO!

On  PINK SHIRT DAY, we released our Kindness Matters video!  We were happy that the Devon Dispatch was there to catch the excitement and the joy the kids had in seeing themselves in the video! There were a number of parents and other guests who came out to watch and it was fantastic to see everyone's expressions as they watched for the first time.

An extra special THANK YOU to our own Mr. Walmsley for his part in the editing of the video and as well to his colleagues at Shaw TV Edmonton: Chris, Angelika, Ray and Sheldon. Without this fantastic team and their donation of time and energy, this video would be no where near the same quality as the amazing product that was the final result. We are very pleased and for a number of us it created a lifetime memory!!

A part of our plan in creating the video was not just to show how kindness matters at school; but also that kindness matters on the internet and that we can have a positive impact worldwide. By the time we revealed the video to the students, it had been seen over 2000 times.  During our assemblies, and in the classroom, we continue to show the kids how messages can spread on the internet. On Facebook alone almost 8,000 people have seen the video.  If you have not seen the video you can watch it here - please help us spread the message and share the video and remember to give it a thumbs up on YouTube:

Weekly Update: February 19, 2017

Hello Robina Families,

What another fabulous week we had! Everyone sure enjoyed the break in the cold weather and the students would have stayed outside and played all day if that was possible. A number of them were reminded of what happens when the snow begins to melt and puddles grow and become so tempting. . .  Perhaps when melting happens it is not a bad idea to have extra socks and pants in your child's back pack. Besides all the great learning that happens in each of our classrooms, we had the 100th day of school activities in grade 1 and 2, a Penguin visit for our grade ones, Valentine's Day and an African Music workshop this week. The extra learning activities created lots of excitement in our school and the atmosphere literally vibrated around here. It is really awesome to see children's excitement when they get to experience something new!!

I hope you are all having time to unplug for a little while today and enjoy some family time together for Family Day.

ASSEMBLY:
Our theme for this month is Kindness Matters and the agenda for this past Friday's assembly can be found here: Assembly Agenda
