Weekly Update: March 9th, 2018

Hello Robina Families,

We are so lucky to have Paige, our Family School Liaison Worker (FSLW), in our building several times a week. One way that she helps is by providing whole classroom support for our students. Currently, she is teaching several classes about Kimochis. To learn more about Komochis, click here

ASSEMBLY UPDATE:

The students are continuing the theme of cooperation for the month of March. This week they learned about problem-solving and how to have solutions based conversations. We will be practicing these skills to figure out a way to have success during recess on our soccer fields. Soccer recess has become a big problem with lots of arguing

Congratulations to both Girls Floor Hockey Teams on a fantastic tournament. Both teams played extremely well. Considering our grade 3 girls only had a couple of days (as a last minute entry for a cancellation) to practice and get organized, they were amazing! Our grade 4 girls came away with a Bronze with a nail biting win in their last game. Thank you to our coaches, Mr. Beck, Mrs. Mullen and Mrs. Tewitz, for guiding and mentoring these young ladies.

STAFF VS. STUDENTS FLOOR HOCKEY FUN!

So much fun was had by all. The noise was deafening, but the gym was filled to the brim with smiles and great energy! Looking forward to doing this again when the boys floor hockey teams are ready to go!

Weekly Update: March 4, 2018

Hello Robina Families,

Can you believe it is March already?? This is the time of year when days literally melt away so quickly. I would like to send out a huge THANK YOU to everyone who donated to our Jump Rope For Heart fundraiser this year. We are so lucky to have such a generous community. A special congratulations goes out to 1A who won the Table Top Soccer game for their classroom. They raised a whopping $85.31 / student in the Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser. We will let everyone know when the individual prizes arrive and they will be handed out ASAP. Sometimes this takes a few weeks to get everything delivered to our school.

ASSEMBLY UPDATE:

We had an awesome presentation from 1A and 3C on Friday to wrap up the kindness theme. They did a wonderful song with actions that had a really catchy beat!

The students are starting the theme of cooperation for the month of March.

Weekly Update: February 25, 2018

Hello Robina Families,

Before I get started on the regular content of the Weekly Update, I would like to offer our condolences to the Heiber family. As you may have heard, Amanda Heiber was involved in a fatal car accident on Hwy. 19 this past Friday. Amanda was an Education Assistant sub for Black Gold Schools and worked regularly at RBES over the last few months. She has two children at Riverview Middle School and this loss is being felt across the Devon community. I would like to extend our deepest sympathy, love and prayers from the RBES staff to her family and friends during this difficult and tragic time.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are lots of activities happening right now at RBES and the busyness has increased signficantly over the last couple of weeks. Our grade 3/4 girls floor hockey team has been practicing hard as our school is once again hosting their tournament on Friday and Saturday, March 9th and 10th. Throughout that week, March 5-9,  there will be a 3 on 3 floor hockey intramural tournament at lunch time for all of those girls, as only some will get to play in the tournament on the weekend. This way everyone gets to have a tournament type experience. The final game of the 3 on 3 intramurals will be on Friday, March 9th at noon and all students are invited to watch and cheer on their favourite team!

The Skip-a-thon was a huge success and I am continually stunned at how passionate this community is about this particular charity. Through your generous donations, $7,246.00 was raised for the Heart and Stroke foundation. That is so fantastic and considering we were just hoping for a toonie per student, we greatly exceeded our goal! A number of our students will have earned individual prizes. Now that our money count is done, the prizes have been ordered and will be handed out as soon as they arrive. In the meantime, we will celebrate the class with largest amount of donations at next Friday's assembly as they win they table top soccer game. We will also celebrate the 3 students who raised the most money and will post pictures next week. We are so very proud of all the work done to support this worthwhile cause. You can see a few pictures below!

ASSEMBLY UPDATE:

The students are continuing their work on the kindness theme this month. The older students created "compliment cards" to pass out when they see kind things happening. The younger students have been really working hard at "noticing" kindness around them and have been nominating their fellow students for the Random Acts of Kindness chart. (more details further on in the blog)

RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS

We have started our Random Acts of Kindness Challenge again!  When a staff member observes a student in a random act of kindness they give the student a “Random Act of Kindness ticket” and they go to the office to write their name on the “Random Act of Kindness Grid”. Each time we fill the grid, we draw 20 squares and those students receive a prize.

PINK SHIRT DAY FEBRUARY 28

We will once again be participating in Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday, February 28! Students are encouraged to wear a pink shirt to show support and join in the campaign to stop bullying.  If you would like more information on the Pink Shirt Campaign - check out this website.
