As I sit and reflect on another terrific week
here at Robina Baker Elementary I cannot help but smile as I think about all
the wonderful things I had the opportunity to see or hear this week as I passed
through the halls. Our students are
truly an impressive crew and some of the many examples of student writing and
artwork on display are but a snippet of the many great things going on inside
the classrooms. If you have not had the
chance to tour the halls and see the many examples of student work, listen to the
student singing coming from the music room, or hear the excited cheers from the
gymnasium it is well worth the stroll.
In terms of activities this week, although
shorter we still managed to pack in a lot!
This week we celebrated the many colours of the rainbow on “Rainbow Day”;
students and parents took their best shot at identifying some fairly cute baby
photos during our staff baby picture fundraising event which raised just over
$100. The grand prize winner of the contest’s
“home movie night” prize pack was Zaina from 3R…congratulations! We celebrated another round of amazing students
of the week, and the first of three classes who will be receiving Ms. Betty’s prized
“Golden Garbage Can” award. Congratulations
go out to Mrs. Letcher’s kindergarten students who were this week’s GGC winners
as recognition of their extra effort in keeping their classroom neat and
tidy! Well done Kindergarten! In addition this week our grade 3 and 4 girls
floor hockey team grabbed their hockey sticks and began practicing for the
annual RBES Girls All Stars Tournament; our aspiring grade 4 actors and
actresses continued with drama rehearsals, and lastly we wrapped up a couple
more in school initiatives – our school fruit and cookie dough event worked to
sell over $4000; and once fully counted we were extremely proud to announce to
students that our Jump Rope for Heart
efforts worked to raise over $6000.00 for the Alberta Heart and Stroke
Foundation – truly incredible!
Lastly we wrapped up another successful month
of hot lunch ordering – if you have not yet submitted your order, the order deadline for March is TODAY
(Friday, February 20th) so get your orders in ASAP.
Come next week the usual fun and excitement at
Robina Baker will continue with the following events and activities taking
place:
Monday, February 23rd – 25th, 27th
– Skating at the Dale Fisher Arena (please remember
your skates, helmets, gloves and ski pants). Students may bring their hockey
sticks for the Friday sessions.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to all
classes skating on Friday morning next week, the weekly school/character
education assembly has been shifted to Thursday, February 26 to accommodate the
skating schedule. Our classroom skating
schedule can be found online on our school webpage.
Monday, February 23rd – RBES Annual Family Dance
Tickets go on sale.
The dance is being held on Thursday, March 5th. Tickets are $5.00/family and will be
available for purchase in the main school foyer before school starts (8:15-8:30)
and again during the noon recess (11:55 – 12:25).
Tuesday, February 24th @ 7:00PM – RBES School Council
Annual General Meeting.
At this meeting we will be reviewing and
passing council bylaws and electing our council executive including a chair
person, vice chair person, and secretary.
All parents are welcome to attend; we hope to see you there! For more information about what school
councils are and their role you can visit: www.albertaschoolcouncils.ca
Tuesday, February 24th
- Hot Lunch Ordering
Ordering options open up for the remaining student hot lunch
orders in April, May and June- you will be able to order lunches for the rest of the school year.
Wednesday, February 25th
- Pink Shirt Day
On February 25,
2015 we encourage everyone to wear something pink to show that we are all
working together to prevent bullying in our schools, in our communities and
online. Pink Shirt Day comes from two Nova Scotia high school students, who
decided to take a stand against bullying in their own school.
Wednesday, February 25th – Fitness for
Fun
Our weekly fun with
the Merriott Youth Athletic Foundation coaches continues every Wednesday. As of late our fun has involved the fast
paced excitement of indoor ringette! A
reminder to all students that they are more than welcome to come out and get active
with the coaches and Mr. Henderson!
Finally on a side note
did you know that you can donate your cans and bottles to the school? When
you bring your recycling to the Devon Depot, you can ask for it to be donated
to Robina Baker! All of the money raised will help provide our students
with the tools they need to succeed.
That’s all for now, I trust everyone has a fun
and relaxing weekend…thank you!
Mr. Henderson
