Weekly Update: October 28, 2016

Hello Robina Families,

Whew! We all made it through the excitement of Book Fair week, parent/teacher meetings, Christmas Card art and the pre-Halloween energy charged student sharing of costume ideas and party plans. It was so wonderful seeing many of you out this past week to meet with your child's teacher. If you missed a meeting time, you are of course welcome to book a meeting with any staff at any point during the year.

It was very nice to share all of the learning and exciting projects happening in our schools with the Black Gold School trustees and our Superintendent, Dr. Yanitski on Friday. A team of seven SWAT (Student Wellness Action Team) students were the tour guides for our special guests. They did an OUTSTANDING job! Here are a few favourite pictures from the visit.

Congratulations!!!

I would like to send out special Congratulations to four of our teaching staff who have reached new milestones in their BGRS career.

Mrs. Rothfos - 5 years of service with Black Gold
Mr. Larson - 10 years of service with Black Gold
Mrs. Spreen - 20 years of service with Black Gold

Weekly Update - October 23, 2016

Hello Robina Families,

What another super busy week at our school! We had some great days outside as the sunshine reappeared, however, that led to children taking off mitts, hats or coats and many have ended up in the lost and found. If your child is missing anything, please have them check our lost and found bin in the hallway outside of the office.

Like last week our weekly update is loaded with information. Some items have been repeated for your convenience, but there is lots of new information as well. Happy Reading!

ASSEMBLIES
Here is the link for this past Friday's agenda: Oct. 21 Assembly agenda We spent a good portion of this day's assembly getting paired up with our younger/older reading/assembly buddies. Each grade 1 student has a grade 3 buddy and each grade 2 student has a grade 4 buddy. Our kinder students will be paired up with a grade 3 or 4 student in the next couple of weeks. We are excited to have these cross grade buddies organized as it creates relationships between older/younger students that can be used to continue a positive bond out on to the playground. Besides reading and discussion activities in the assemblies, there is now built in opportunity for older and younger classes to do the odd classroom project together.

Congratulations to our Students of the Week for this week!

Student of the Week Individual and Group Photos - This link will become live when I can load the photos -- for some reason, blogger was being fussy and wouldn't allow me to add photos today.

Wrist Band Challenge Winner: Kaelyn 4A

Be sure to send those wristbands in and put them in the draw bin in the office. If your family is active in the Devon River Valley, please email Mrs. Kloschinsky or Mrs. Horrocks each time you do a River Valley activity and your child can stop by the office for a wrist band to put in the draw.

This week we gave away some more water bottles, some books and a couple more t-shirts.

Congrats to this week's winners of some of those fun items at the assembly:
Trysten KMW
Shane KPM
Victoria KAM
Rourke 1C
Hanna 1D
Samantha 2B
Jack 4A
Shea 4C

As is the Black Gold tradition, our November PD is on November 1 so kids can sleep in after a night of trick or treating or other activities.

Hot Lunch & Milk

Our Hot Lunch Program will be up and running soon! You should have received a separate email last week with all the required information on how to sign up. Please click on this link to our website for detailed information if you missed that email: http://rbes.blackgold.ca/parents/hot-lunches/

Or you can send one back in your child’s reading bag on the days that you would like your child to have milk.

We will do the draws each month at the Assembly and 4 students will be presented with a certificate. The prize is good for 3 months. Students can enter as many times as they like during the month. Weekly Update - October 16, 2016

Hello Robina Families,

Well somehow fall snuck by and winter is upon us. I hope you are all staying toasty warm and dry as Mother Nature tries to figure out which season we are in. We have reminded our students that there is absolutely no snow balls or throwing snow in the air. Two students were innocently injured this week as they ran through some snow being thrown in the air to create a "snow fall" and there happened to be ice hiding in the snow. One of our students got it right in his eye which left quite a mark and we were very lucky it wasn't more serious. Please help us remind your children that this rule is here for everyone's safety. They are more than welcome to build things in the snow! Thanks for your help with this.

Like last week our weekly update is loaded with information. Some items have been repeated for your convenience, but there is lots of new information as well. Happy Reading!

ASSEMBLIES
As we move through the month of October, we are continuing our theme of RESPECT and we have added CARING and KINDNESS to the mix. I thought it might be beneficial to add a link to our assembly agenda for the week, so that you have an opportunity to see what your children are doing during the Friday assemblies. Friday, October 14th Assembly Agenda link.

When we break into our smaller assembly groups on Tuesday and Wednesday, we continue the work that we are doing on Fridays, but really alter it to grade level appropriate understanding and activities that each group needs to work on. Our grade 3s and 4s are currently bringing a device to those short assemblies and learning about digital citizenship and responsibility/respect as it pertains to their "Digital Citizenship Admirable Use" agreement that you and your children have both read and signed. Our grade 1s and 2s are working on manners, kindness and general school expectations.

Congratulations to our Students of the Week for this week!

We are very fortunate to have a number of fun "prize" items that have been donated to our school. We will be doing weekly draws for awhile until those items run out! Thank you to Mrs. Ostonal who donated all the water bottles and to Mr. Larson who received all the t-shirts to give away. We also got a number of prizes from Club Moo - our milk club that we belong to.

Congrats to this week's winners of some of those fun items at the assembly:
