Weekly Update: May 27, 2018

Hello Robina Families,

Can you believe May is almost over! Highlights of the week include the fabulous weather for our swimming lessons as well as all of our classrooms receiving recess bins full of great items for students to play with at recess! These items were purchased using money that was raised from the Spell-a-thon.

Our BOKS program has come to an end for the year. This group of students has worked hard and learned about healthy lifestyle choices for both nutrition and taking care of their body through physical activity and basic fitness skills. A big Thank You to all the participants for your peseverance! We would also like to thank the coaches for giving their extra time to make this before school program happen and to thank all those parents who made the early drive in! We look forward to continuing BOKS in our next school year!

Grade 1 Flag Ceremony:

Each year the Devon Lion's Club visits our Grade 1 classes to celebrate being Canadian. Two members of our Lion's Club visited our school this past week and presented Grade 1 students with a special flag, pin, certificate, and colouring book! Students respectfully held their flags and sang O Canada! Thank you to our Local Lion's Club for continuing to support education at RBES!

Weekly Update: May 13, 2018

Hello Robina Families,

Happy Belated Mother's Day to all of our wonderful RBES moms! I have to admit that I decided to totally take the day off from school work on Sunday to enjoy some family time and the result is I am a little behind with a few things including the weekly update. Since most of the post was already done earlier last week, I decided to go ahead and send it out late as there are still lots of pieces of relevant information.

Using a breathing ball (Hoberman's Sphere) is a great way to learn to be calm and practice patience.

Bike Safety is fast approaching. Students can bring their bikes to school on Monday, May 14th to kick off the week of bike activities. The week will end on Thursday, May 17th with a Bike Rodeo at the Devon Arena.

Thank You Devon Bicycle Association

A huge thank you to the Devon Bicycle Association who came out to do our annual helmet check prior to Bike Safety Week! Students received a note letting you know how their helmets fit and advising you if they recommend any changes.

Swimming runs from May 22 to June 1. Grade 1-4 will be participating in Red Cross Swim@School. ** You may note that some classes only swim for one week. The reason for this is they have a longer time in the pool for the one week that they go. The total minutes is the same for all. This is just to help accommodate all the times needed for the schedule.

This program is designed for students to have an opportunity for fitness in the pool setting with a focus on improving swimming and water safety skills. The fee for this activity is $25. The fee set by the Devon Pool is $32.50 per student, however, money raised from the Spell-A-Thon has been used to reduce the costs for our families.

Detailed information is available on our website: https://rbes.blackgold.ca/calendar/activities/

Permission Forms must be completed by May 14https://powerschool.blackgold.ca/public/

Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students will be enjoying a free swim at the pool for no charge.  They will not be participating in Bike Safety.

Over-due Fees

If you have any fees outstanding in your PowerSchool account you have probably received a letter from Black Gold.   Please clear up your account or contact the office before May 25.  Black Gold submits all over-due fees to collections on the last week of May.

Online payment can be made via Visa, Visa Debit, MasterCard or Interac Online in the "School Fees" section of the PowerSchool parent portal at https://powerschool.blackgold.ca/public/. Payments can also be made at RBES in the form of cash or cheque.

Weekly Update: May 6, 2018

Hello Robina Families,

Education Week was filled with lots of great activities to enrich our curriculum. Learning is a journey was the theme of Education Week. We were so lucky to have a couple of author visits for some grade levels, our grade ones went to the library for an author visit, we had a Celtic performance by Kierah that was fantastic and had the students wanting to clap in time to here beat and our biggest event was participating in Hats On For Mental Health and having our own Wellness afternoon. It was really neat to hear some comments from the kids throughout our Wellness Activities -- we heard things like, "Wow, these smoothies look like they would not taste good, but they are delicious!" "I love being in the sunshine and playing outside!" "I don't even feel angry anymore" (after doing a yoga activity). It is so wonderful for students to learn and realize that there are so many things they can do for their own wellness and to figure out what works best for them. We will have part two of our wellness activities in June. Enjoy some of our pictures from this week below!

Next Year Planning

We do have a quick survey for all of our families that we want you to fill out as we want to know if you are planning on returning to Robina Baker or if you are moving out of town or to a different school in the Fall.   In order to assist us with our planning for next year, please click on this link and fill out the survey. Your timely response is critical for planning and staffing next year. If you already completed this survey - thank you so much!

If your child currently attends Robina Baker you do not have to register online for next year.  If you have a younger child that is old enough for Pre-School (4 years old by February) or Kindergarten (5 years old by February) then you can register now for school for next year!  If your child is moving on to Riverview Middle School their file will be transferred to that school at the end of June.

You Can Register For Pre-School or Kindergarten Now
