Weekly Update: April 15, 2015

Hello Robina Families,

Spring Fever is definitely in the air at Robina Baker. The students' energy level is high, they are loving being outside in the sunshine at recess and in general are excited about everything. I saw some awesome projects in classrooms as I walked around this week and some really amazing art work. I had students sharing their progress in both reading and math basic facts with me as they were excited and proud that their learning was moving forward. Such a rewarding experience and I look forward to more of that as we head into the last quarter of the year.

Besides all the awesome learning that is taking place, it was another busy week with floor hockey and a dress up day added in for fun! I will share some pictures below.

Crazy hair day was a huge success and many of our students participated. If you didn't see the album I posted on FaceBook, you can see them at this link: RBES: Crazy Hair Day Photos The creativity of some was truly amazing!

This section will be dedicated to a number of Congratulations that we would like to send out.

Congratulations to one of our Boys Floor Hockey Teams! They placed 2nd at the Caledonia Tournament this past weekend. We will share photos next week.

What's coming up?

Education Week is coming up during the first week of May. As part of an exhibit that we are preparing for that week, we have the 4 Cats Art Studio from Leduc coming out to work with all of our students. Each child will do some type of painting on a canvas. This activity starts this week and we have used some of our Spell-a-thon money to pay the $10 for each child to do this project. We will let you know when we put these out on display for parents to come and see.

Raptor Spirit Wear order forms will be coming home this week. Students will have the opportunity to choose from the following items: hoodie, t-shirt or shorts. It took awhile to get this organized as we were trying to find a local company that we could get reasonable prices from. We feel we have found a great company and got the t-shirt price down to a very affordable $10. If your child plans to participate in Track and Field in June it would be great if they could order a t-shirt to wear to the meet. The staff debuted their Raptor Jerseys on Friday (which you saw in some of the previous photos) and the kids are very excited about spirit wear. For our adult volunteers who have inquired, there will be adult sizes for the t-shirts and hoodies. We are doing a simple order for now and will expand to a few more items in the fall.

Earth Day is this Friday, April 22nd. Our students will be doing a school yard clean up with their class at some point during the week. They will also be encouraged to pick up litter wherever they are throughout the week to help clean up Devon. As part of this activity all families who help clean up the Town are invited to a BBQ. See details below:

Parent Survey: Everyone was sent out a link to do a quick 2 minute survey to help us make decisions with our planning for the end of this year and for next year. If you have not filled it out yet, please do so by clicking on this link: Planning ahead survey . . . Thank you in advance for your help with this. I would also like to thank the parents who already currently email with their ideas and feedback. I take each one of those seriously and Mr. Larson and I discuss each piece when making our decisions.

Grade 4 parents, we had also sent out a separate survey to you with regards to finalizing our transition plans to Riverview. If you have not filled that out yet, please do so at this link: Grade 4 Transition Planning . If you could do this within the next day or so, we would like to send information out to all of you within a couple of days as we have prebooked dates with Riverview that we would like to finalize. Thank you in advance for helping us out with your feedback.

Weekly Update: April 8, 2016

Hello Robina Families,

I have just a quick update this week. I hope that you have all had a chance to get out and enjoy some of that beautiful sunshine this weekend. Hopefully spring is here to stay. On Friday, we had our Mental Health day that was held in conjunction with the CAP mentors and FCSS from the Town of Devon (who came out to do some extra things with the grade 4s). I posted a link on FaceBook to see all of our photos. If you haven't had a chance to see them, you can click here: Mental Healthy Day Photos . The students learned some amazing strategies to promote good mental health and had a wonderful day.

KLONDIKE RELAY update:

Our team did a fabulous job and we managed to bring home a few ribbons. These awards along with their certificates will be presented in the Friday, April 15th assembly coming up for those parents who want to come out. There is a great team photo in the Devon Dispatch and you can view other photos at this link: Klondike Relay Photos

CONGRATULATIONS:

I would like to send out a big congratulations to this week's student of the week winners. Unfortunately I won't have photos for that until tomorrow. Come back soon to see an awesome picture of these kiddos.
