Weekly Update: December 1st, 2017

Hello Robina Families,

We can't believe that it is already December! We have a busy month ahead with Christmas Concerts, our Christmas elves campaign, and all the wonderful learning in our classrooms!

Demolition Days:

As the saying goes, out with the old, and in with the new. The students and teachers are settling nicely into their new spaces. Our facilities team is also working hard to sort out a few of the last minute details in the building. Thank you to everyone for their patience as we bring our new wing to life. You might have heard your child talk about the big tractors tearing apart the old classrooms. We certainly had something to talk about during recess this week. Take a look:

School Board Visit:

We were very excited to welcome our School Trustees and Superintendent Dr. Norman Yanitski to Robina Baker on Thursday. A few of our Grade 4 students toured our guests classrooms to classroom for them to see all the great learning that our staff and students are doing. The School Board also had the opportunity to visit our new wing. Here are a few pictures from our tour.

Crosswalk Safety:

We always want to do our best to keep our Robina families safe. Our Peace Officers have increased their presence lately and have asked us to provide a reminder regarding our crosswalks. There is an increased amount of parents and students not using our crosswalks. In our school, we educate our students about using the appropriate places to cross the road. Students are getting too close to moving buses and vehicles. To help us, please talk to your child about safely crossing the road and model this whenever you can!

Grade 4 Social Media Presentation:

The Grade 4 students visited Holy Spirit Catholic School this week to participate in a Social Media Safety presentation. Students were very engaged in the presentation which reminded students about being responsible digital citizens. This message is one that we will continue in our weekly assemblies as well as in the classrooms. Being a responsible digital citizen is not just for Grade 4 students. Please check out the following link as a resource you can use at home as well!

CHRISTMAS ELVES:

The Grade Threes kicked off our Christmas Elves Campaign during the Assembly!  Once again, we will be collecting toys and food for the Devon Christmas Elves. The donations need to be delivered to the Christmas Elves on December 8th so we are asking that all donations be brought to the school by December 7th.

This year our Christmas Concerts are later than the day that the Christmas Elves are delivering their hampers so there will be no donations accepted at the Christmas Concerts (December 18-20).  Please send your donations by December 7.

We have been in contact with the Christmas Elves and this is their food “wish list”.  These are just some of the needed food items but any food donation is greatly appreciated.

The class with the most donations will win a root beer float party!

Thank you so much for your support!

I AM GROWING UP:

Check out the excellent video our Devon FCSS ECD (Early Childhood Development) team was a part of creating. It is an excellent overview and resource for understanding our little people. If you can't see it below, you can also find it on our website at: http://rbes.blackgold.ca/parents/parent-links/

RAPTOR SPIRIT WEAR:

Great news! We have Raptor Wear for you to order. Our order deadline will be Friday, December 8th. There will be sample sizers out all next week for your kiddos to try on or for you to come look at and determine what to order for your child. There is a good chance that the orders will not be here until after Christmas, so please don't count on the order being here before then. The return rate of our spirit wear depends on numbers ordered. If you have any questions, please let us know. The website for ordering is: https://goo.gl/Md1JGR and the instructions for ordering are below:
