Weekly Update: January 28, 2018

Hello Robina Families,

Winter is upon us once again! The big snow fall made for some awesome play at recess time on Friday and the students really enjoyed themselves. Just a reminder to send ski pants, toques, mitts and boots each day. A number of little ones had to be sent in to borrow extra items from the office. Thank you in advance for your help with this.

Accountability Pillar Survey:

This month, Alberta Education will be conducting the annual Accountability Pillar Survey. Parents of students in grades 4, 7 and 10 will receive a mailed survey from Alberta Education (if the school has fewer than 120 students, parents of students in grades 4-12 will receive the survey).

As an annual check-up on the education system, the Accountability Pillar provides an opportunity for
Alberta Education, Black Gold Regional Division No. 18 and Robina Baker Elementary School to ensure that we are equipping students for success.

The Accountability Pillar uses a set of 16 indicators. Data on these indicators consists of surveys of
students, parents and teachers on various aspects of education quality, student outcomes such as
dropout and high school completion rates, and provincial assessments of student learning.
We encourage you to return your survey promptly. Your participation helps provide important
information on the quality of education your child is receiving, and adds your voice to the future of
education in your school and throughout Alberta. All surveys are anonymous and ask questions about
experiences with your school.

Survey results will be available to school authorities in May 2018, and will be reported publicly as part of our 3-Year Education Plans and Annual Education Results Reports.

ASSEMBLY UPDATE:

We continued to work on good behaviour/good manners theme while working our way towards the February Kindness theme. Our students did some great working together in reviewing good behaviour and manners outside of the school. There were lots of great discussions this week and both Mr. Coffin and I are noticing a distint difference in overall student manners. You can click here for the agenda: January 26th Assembly Agenda

Once again, Robina Baker will be taking part in collaboration with the Town of Devon and walking through  Devon’s trail system. Grade 1-4 students will be walking with classes enjoying fresh air, exercise and celebrating the beauty of winter.  This will be followed by Hot Chocolate generously provided by The Town of Devon. We ask that students dress warmly in snow pants, boots, mitts and a toque.

Please visit Powerschool to give permission for your child to participate before February 6!  Note: Kinders will remain on school grounds for their walk and do not need permission forms signed.

Each class will require one or two volunteers to walk with them. We also require some volunteers to remain at the school to help prepare the hot chocolate. Please let your child’s teacher know if you can help out this day.  If you are able to help prepare and hand out hot chocolate, please email Mrs. Kloschinsky - kathy.kloschinsky@blackgold.ca .

Winter Walk Schedule:
12:45 - All classes will meet in the gym before we depart
1:00 - 1:30 pm - students will walk through a set path with their class
