Weekly Update: May 13, 2018

Hello Robina Families,

Happy Belated Mother's Day to all of our wonderful RBES moms! I have to admit that I decided to totally take the day off from school work on Sunday to enjoy some family time and the result is I am a little behind with a few things including the weekly update. Since most of the post was already done earlier last week, I decided to go ahead and send it out late as there are still lots of pieces of relevant information.

ASSEMBLIES:

Our theme this month is Patience. This is a tough skill for our kiddos to learn especially when they are waiting for something good or fun to happen.  Here is our assembly agenda from this past week: https://goo.gl/iYGZDX

Using a breathing ball (Hoberman's Sphere) is a great way to learn to be calm and practice patience.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! to OUR STUDENTS OF THE WEEK:

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR DRAW WINNERS:

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR BOKS KID OF THE WEEK:

Bike Safety is fast approaching. Students can bring their bikes to school on Monday, May 14th to kick off the week of bike activities. The week will end on Thursday, May 17th with a Bike Rodeo at the Devon Arena.

Detailed information is available on our website: https://rbes.blackgold.ca/calendar/activities/

Permission Forms must be completed by May 11https://powerschool.blackgold.ca/public/

Thank You Devon Bicycle Association

A huge thank you to the Devon Bicycle Association who came out to do our annual helmet check prior to Bike Safety Week! Students received a note letting you know how their helmets fit and advising you if they recommend any changes.

Swimming runs from May 22 to June 1. Grade 1-4 will be participating in Red Cross Swim@School. ** You may note that some classes only swim for one week. The reason for this is they have a longer time in the pool for the one week that they go. The total minutes is the same for all. This is just to help accommodate all the times needed for the schedule.

This program is designed for students to have an opportunity for fitness in the pool setting with a focus on improving swimming and water safety skills. The fee for this activity is $25. The fee set by the Devon Pool is $32.50 per student, however, money raised from the Spell-A-Thon has been used to reduce the costs for our families.

Detailed information is available on our website: https://rbes.blackgold.ca/calendar/activities/

Permission Forms must be completed by May 14https://powerschool.blackgold.ca/public/

Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students will be enjoying a free swim at the pool for no charge.  They will not be participating in Bike Safety.

On Tuesday, May 29 the Grade 1 – 4 students will be walking over to the Devon Community Centre to watch John Maland Drama Troupe’s production of Disney’s Newsies the Musical.

Based on the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, this new Disney musical tells the story of Jack Kelly, a rebellious newsboy who dreams of a life as an artist away from the big city. After publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer raises newspaper prices at the newsboys’ expense, Kelly, and his fellow newsies take action and win!

There is no cost for the performance, but permission forms must be completed on PowerSchool before May 28.

Over-due Fees

If you have any fees outstanding in your PowerSchool account you have probably received a letter from Black Gold.   Please clear up your account or contact the office before May 25.  Black Gold submits all over-due fees to collections on the last week of May.

Online payment can be made via Visa, Visa Debit, MasterCard or Interac Online in the "School Fees" section of the PowerSchool parent portal at https://powerschool.blackgold.ca/public/. Payments can also be made at RBES in the form of cash or cheque.

If you have any questions about your account or, if payment is an issue, please contact our office at 780-987-3705.
